CSOR: New Home Depot Distribution Center in Connecticut

A second home depot distribution center in South Windsor Connecticut on the “Armory Branch” has been under construction for some months and two spur tracks constructed, one inside the building.  The first car (a single boxcar) was brought Monday December 28th by Connecticut Southern Railroad.

The $50-million, 421,000-square-foot, 46 acre facility is the second in the Hartford area which already has a warehouse on the Central New England in Bloomfield.  Owned by Indiana developer Scannell Properties, the property got a 50% property tax abatement from the town.

The new warehouse “is part of our investment strategy to speed up delivery to customers and stores, eventually reaching 90% of our customers with same day/next day delivery,” Home Depot said in a statement.

Another Scannell Properties distribution center (which also got a tax abatement), a $42 million Coca-Cola bottling plant sits across the street.  Scannell is also planning a 251,500 square foot distribution center adjacent on Ellington Road for an unnamed tenant.
