CP: Restores Five-Day Weekly Service For Plattsburgh NY

Shippers Call in Big Guns to Negotiate Adequate Rail Service.

Canadian Pacific logo17.August, Plattsburgh NY — CP #D11 train resumed five-day local service, in response to a rebellion by local rail-served businesses and their political representatives.

Prior to the CVD-19 pandemic, CP had reduced Plattsburgh service from five to three days weekly, with no specific reason provided at the time, according to members of South Junction Enterprises, an association of local shippers. Shortly after that, service was further reduced to twice weekly. When the pandemic hit and CP furloughed 15 operational workers on the Northeast US lines, service was cut to just one day per week.

Fed-up shippers, worked with the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Clinton County Industrial Development Agency, and Town of Plattsburgh. Together they reached out to their U.S. congressional representative Elise Stefanik, who took on an advocacy role for the shippers.

Following negotiation among the parties, a way was found to resume the 5x weekly service. {North Country Chamber of Commerce report.}
