CSOR/P&W: Wethersfield Secondary to Reopen for Daily Traffic

At Public Info Session, G&W Tells Residents to Expect up to 25 Cars Twice Daily Running at 10 Mph, Starting 3 June.

06 May, Wethersfield CT – The running plan over the 16.2-mile line was announced in conjunction with CTDOT at the public session {Town of Wethersfield Weekly Management Report, 10.May.2019}. The start of revenue service has been expected since MOW activity started in October, 2018. The Wethersfield Secondary runs south from the CSOR North Harford Yard (MP 0.0) to Middletown Yard (MP 16.2). CSOR owns the 1.6 miles from the yard south to the Reserve Road (Hartford) spur serving the Hartford Regional Produce Market and All Waste, Inc. The spur is owned by CT Department of Agriculture.

ConnDOT owns the line south of Reserve Rd. to Middletown, running through the Towns of Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, and Cromwell. The line butts with the Cromwell Industrial Track at MP13.7 {Wikipedia}. From there to Middletown, the line is operated by P&W out of Middletown to serve Seven D Wholesale’s (building materials) Rocky Hill location, and Kloeckner Metals in Middletown off the Berlin spur.

Current customers

The Hartford Regional Market  is a statutorily authorized facility located at 101 Reserve Road in Hartford. It is operated by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture as a non-profit venture, under the Connecticut Marketing Authority.

The Market covers 32 acres, contains 230,386 square feet of warehouse space, an active railroad spur, and 144 farmers’ market stalls. It is the largest perishable food distribution facility between New York and Boston, the Regional Market operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Seven D Wholesale is a wholesale distributor of quality building products with four  regional distribution centers  serving the Northeast and brokerage offices providing services to customers throughout the contiguous 48 states.

The 7-D Hartford distribution Center is located at 145 Dividend Road, Rocky Hill, CT 06067, and serves the New England region, and is the leading supplier of engineered wood products.

Kloekner Metals Middletown branch is located at 760 Newfield St., Middletown, CT 06457.

The 10 acre, 150,000 sq. ft. facility specializes in heavy carbon sheet and plate products. Product is transported in a 6-bay warehouse that contains several overhead cranes, forklifts, with truck access and a dedicated rail siding.
